Packaging

Unfortunately, our Lean Cuisine products are only suitable to be heated in the microwave. But you have options to heat from both frozen and chilled on all meals!

Also, due to the nature of the ingredients used in these meals (high vegetable content) we do not recommend using the oven as they are likely to dry out and the eating experience will be compromised.

Both the tray and box can be placed into your recycling bin at home and the film (which is a soft plastic) can be recycled by placing in any Redcycle drop-off bin at your local Coles or Woolworths store.

Our trays are not designed for ongoing re-use but feel free to get creative and up-cycle as desired.

We continuously review how we can ensure that our products are safest for our consumers and the environment. We aim to ensure that we can reduce plastic from all our products on an ongoing basis.

Nutrition

Kilojoules and calories are both a measure of the energy in food which fuels our bodies. Australia now uses kilojoules as the standard measure of energy in foods, but the old system was measured in calories, so it’s not uncommon to hear people use both terms. The important thing to remember is that they measure the same thing!  4.184 kilojoules = 1 Calorie

There are lots of different factors that go into determining how much energy we need each day – things like your physical activity levels, your age and your gender. As a rough guideline, an average adult needs about 8700kJ per day (2080 Cal).

When we eat more energy than our body burns as fuel, the excess is stored as fat. To lose a kilo of fat each week, you need to reduce your energy intake by about 4300kJ (1030 Cal). The math works just the same in reverse – eating an extra 4300kJ a day will make you gain a kilo each week.

Yes, as long as you store, handle and cook pre-prepared convenience meals properly, and follow the instructions on the packet.

The Lean Cuisine range has been developed in conjunction with leading Australian Dietitian and Nutritionist, Susie Burrell. Working closely with the Lean Cuisine chefs and food scientists, each meal was formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of a healthy, balanced diet.

Sodium is one component of table salt, also known as sodium chloride. Specifically, it is the sodium component of salt that is most damaging to the body and as such it is recommended that Australians aim to keep their sodium intake below 2000mg a day. To calculate the sodium content of salt, you divide the salt amount by 2.5. For example, 5g of salt = 2000mg.

Meals

Our cooking times are based on a 1000 watt microwave oven. As microwave ovens vary, cooking times may need to be adjusted. If a lower wattage microwave is used, the cooking time may need to be increased. If additional time is added, it is important to watch the product while it is cooking. If the product starts to bubble, stop it at that time as that would be a good indication that the product is hot enough. Ensure that the product reaches an internal temperature of 72°C.

Yes, Lean Cuisine® meals can be heated from both chilled and frozen. Make sure you defrost for a minimum of 8 hours in the refrigerator. Keep chilled at or below 5°C, and consume within 24 hours.

Did you know our photographers use our actual meals when they do our pack photography? Why not try removing the meal from the tray and plating it up as per the serving suggestion.

Ice crystals occur naturally on frozen products; however, excessive crystals — creating a snowy appearance — can indicate the storage temperature fluctuated.

Please check the Best Before date on the outside of the packaging before consuming.

We have Microwave Instructions “From Chilled” on the packaging but we advise to keep the product at or below 5°C while defrosting and consume within 24 hours once defrosted.  The Best Before date is only relevant if the product is still frozen.

Ingredients

All our meals have allergen warnings beneath the ingredients’ panel on the packaging. Please refer to individual meals by clicking here.

We are always trying our best to source Australian produce to put into our products, but due to volume requirements and seasonal availability, we source our materials to ensure compliance with our quality standards on a consistent basis. Therefore, sometimes we do source ingredients from other countries.

The origins of all ingredients are private & confidential information retained by the company, but we would like to ensure you that all the ingredients we use in the factory are compliant with Australian guidelines.

100% of our meat products are sourced from Australia.

The country of origin labelling is per current legislation, and due to commercial confidentiality, we cannot disclose the exact source of all ingredients. All our suppliers and ingredients are reviewed and approved by our team to ensure that all ingredients comply with the necessary import and Australian legislation.

We also work closely with Aqis to ensure that all suppliers meet Australian food safety requirements.

Also, due to the nature of some of the specialty ingredients in these products, not all are readily available in commercial quantities from Australian sources.

We do not use ‘whole eggs’ in our production; we use liquid or powder egg only.

We try use organic ingredients as much as possible.

The flavour enhancers used in some of our products are Disodium Guanylate and Inosinate (627 and 631).  They are components of the stock powders we use and are used by our supplier to enhance the flavour of the stock, reducing the need to add too much salt.

These ingredients are both considered natural and are permitted for use in food as per the Australian Food Standards Code.

The sugar that we use is a natural source from plant base and is used to balance the acidity of the meals where necessary

According to the Australia New Zealand food standards code, only characterising ingredients in a meal require percentages displayed on the packaging.  Please note that the percentages given on the packaging of the product are for all the characterising ingredients of this meal.  Unfortunately, due to confidentiality, we cannot give you a detailed list of the percentages of all the ingredients used in this meal.
